Requirements for Low Pressure Black Seal License
The State of New Jersey mandates strict requirements for obtaining a Black Seal Low Pressure Boiler License. Below outlines specific qualifications needed.
Experience Needed
Complete a minimum of three months of practical experience working as a helper, apprentice, or assistant under the supervision of a licensed operator of equipment requiring such a license, in accordance with N.J.A.C. 12:90-8.5. During the application review process, the Bureau of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance may request supporting documentation, including a copy of the boiler operator’s log.

Successfully complete an intensive training program lasting at least 30 full working days. This program must be established by the responsible management representative and approved by the Bureau of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance within five days of its start. Training must be conducted one-on-one with a licensed operator, and a log of the training period is required. The trainee must also receive written verification from the management representative responsible for daily boiler plant operations.Compliance, with the exception of that encompassed within the five day approval period, shall not be credited toward the 30 days intensive training program.

Endorsements Needed
The Black Seal Low Pressure License requires you to provide an endorsement from a manager from your place of employment for your application. Provide our school with state inspection certificates. These certificates can be found hanging in your boiler room framed behind glass. They contain all the information that we need to properly fill out your application.
NJ License Exam
Although our boiler license courses are fully online, the State of New Jersey requires all license tests be completed in person at a state-approved testing site.
