Each session includes access to a proctored exam with flexible scheduling options. How long does CPO recertification take?

Most pool operators complete the entire renewal in one day, including the live class and the exam.

Is the CPO Renewal Course offered fully online?

Yes. The Training Center offers a 100 percent online, PHTA-approved CPO Renewal Course accepted in all 50 states.

How many exam attempts are included with CPO renewal?

PHTA permits one initial exam and two retakes within six months. All allowed attempts are included at no extra cost.

How long is my CPO certification valid after renewal?

Your renewed CPO certification is valid for five years under national PHTA standards. The only exception is Maryland, which requires renewal every three years based on state regulations.

Do I need pre-coursework for CPO renewal?

No. Pre-coursework such as the Pool Operator Primer is only required for first-time CPO candidates, not renewal students.

How do I schedule my CPO Renewal exam?

You can take the exam immediately after class or choose a later proctored session through your MyTraining portal.

How many questions are on the CPO Recertification Exam?

The national CPO exam includes 50 multiple-choice questions and requires a passing score of 74 percent.

How quickly will I receive my renewed CPO certification?

Your digital CPO certificate is issued the same day you pass the exam.

What if my CPO certification is already expired?

You can still enroll in the CPO Renewal Course as long as you previously held a CPO certification. If your credential has expired for an extended period, our team will advise whether PHTA guidelines require taking the full initial course.

How often do I need to renew my CPO certification?

Most operators renew their CPO credential every five years, but requirements vary by state. Maryland is the only state with a shorter renewal cycle (three years).
