This hybrid program combines online classroom learning with hands-on technical training, giving you real-world experience working with the same tools, materials, and systems used by professional plumbers in the field.

You will learn core plumbing skills across residential, commercial, and industrial systems. The curriculum is extensive, covering piping techniques, the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC) as adopted by New Jersey, and core principles from the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and building code standards used in the field. You will gain direct experience with residential and commercial rough-ins, fixture and appliance installation, drain and vent systems, troubleshooting, repair, and heating systems, including hot water, steam, and hydronics. Students also work with copper, PVC, PEX, steel, and specialty piping materials while developing the practical skills employers look for.

This is a complete plumbing career program built to prepare you to graduate job-ready. You will graduate with a Plumbing Training Certificate, an official OSHA-10 Safety Card, CSST Gas Piping and Firestop certifications, a professional tool bag, and the NJ state-recognized training hours needed for long-term career advancement.

Accredited & NJ Approved Plumbing School

The Training Center is a New Jersey DOL and DOE-approved plumbing trade school. The training hours earned in this program can count directly toward state requirements and serve as an official first step toward a professional plumbing career in NJ. This places graduates on the required path from education to an Apprentice role, which is needed to eventually become a Journeyman and a Licensed Master Plumber. We are also accredited by the IACET.

This 11-month Plumbing Training Program consists of 96 classes, 58 of which are in-person at our Branchburg, NJ location. The program offers a flexible schedule and combines online learning with in-person hands-on training. Our program provides more hands-on training and smaller class sizes than other trade schools. You gain direct experience working with the tools and materials used by professional plumbers. We train you in full-scale, physical mock-ups that mirror actual job sites. utilizing our new 3-zone plumbing lab and 8 dedicated training stations. Here, you will learn plumbing techniques such as soldering, brazing, threading pipe, and solvent welding while installing toilets, sinks, water heaters, and hydronic & steam heating systems. With our low 8-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio, you receive individual coaching and support, ensuring you are fully prepared to succeed in the field.

We don’t just teach the basics; here you will learn the full scope of the plumbing trade. Students build the essential skills needed to succeed in the industry. You will gain a strong foundation in water supply, drainage, waste, and vent systems (DWV), as well as gas piping and fixture installation. The curriculum is heavily focused on the National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC), ensuring you are prepared to navigate the complex regulations required for legal and safe installations in New Jersey. You will also perform rough-ins, troubleshooting, and repairs in residential and commercial settings, preparing you for active job sites. Students graduate field-ready with the knowledge to work with Copper, PEX, PVC, and Black Iron pipe.

Our program prepares students to enter the workforce with the multiple industry certifications and credentials employers require. Along with your official Plumbing Training Certificate of Completion, you will earn an OSHA-10 Safety Card and an OSHA-Compliant Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Certification for safely disabling water heaters, boilers, and pumps. You will also graduate with highly valued technical credentials, including industry certifications in CSST Gas Piping and Firestopping, giving you a massive competitive edge when applying for apprenticeships.

Earning a New Jersey Master Plumber License is the gold standard for success in this industry. To help you reach this goal, your training is instructed directly by Licensed Master Plumbers, each bringing over 35 years of real-world field experience to the classroom. The Training Center is an officially approved plumbing education provider by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Department of Education. To qualify for a license, the state requires a strict combination of field experience, On-the-Job Training (OJT), and Related Technical Instruction (RTI). This program can fully satisfy your first year apprenticeship RTI requirement mandated by the New Jersey State Board of Examiners of Master Plumbers. Completing this program is an official first step toward a professional plumbing career and license in NJ.

Our plumbing training program includes a comprehensive curriculum of 16 core modules, designed to build the essential skills needed to start a plumbing career in New Jersey. The course covers the complete scope of residential and commercial systems, including code compliance, rough-in installation, water distribution, drainage, and fixture setting.

Introduction to Plumbing

We start with the past, present, and future of the industry. Students learn core plumbing terminology and the theory behind potable water versus sanitary waste systems. We also cover how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the trade, preparing you for the next generation of smart plumbing technology.

Job Site Safety & OSHA-10

Safety is your first responsibility on any job site. This module covers OSHA-10 standards, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), confined space entry, and excavation & trenching safety. You will also learn Hazard Communication (HazCom) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures to prevent injury when servicing energized plumbing equipment.

Professional Tools, Materials & Hardware

Gain expertise in the hardware of the trade. You will learn to identify and handle professional tools including press fitting machines, threading machines, torches, and pneumatic tools. We also study the legal applications of every plumbing pipe, fitting, and valve allowed by code, alongside the administrative regulations required for compliant plumbing projects.

Trade Math, Pipe Offsets & Formulas

Trade math is the language of precision. This module strips away the fear of math and focuses on real-world applications: calculating rolling offsets (including 22½° and 45° elbows), measuring pipe grade for drainage, and computing Drainage Fixture Units (DFU) to size plumbing waste and vent systems correctly

Pipe Joining & Fabrication

This is a major hands-on component of your training. You will learn the techniques to connect every major piping system, including soldering copper, gluing PVC/ABS, and using modern Copper Press and Push fittings. We cover distinct PEX applications, including both PEX-A expansion and PEX-B crimping, as well as joining methods for no-hub cast iron, ductile iron, and CSST gas piping.

Water Supply & Backflow Prevention

Learn how to distribute clean, potable water through diverse systems, including municipal distribution, private well water, and purification systems. This module covers the installation of water heaters, mixing valves, and Anti-Scald valves. We also emphasize public health protection through Backflow Prevention, instructing you on the proper use of vacuum breakers, check valves, and RPZ devices, alongside ASHRAE 188 standards for managing Legionella bacteria.

Drainage, Waste & Vent (DWV) Systems

The “sanitary” side of plumbing. Students learn the physics of removing wastewater safely. Topics include installing P-traps to block sewer gas, sizing plumbing vent stacks to protect trap seals, and understanding the flow of waste in both residential and commercial plumbing layouts.

Storm Water & Sewer Management

Distinct from sanitary waste, storm water requires specific plumbing management. You will learn to calculate rainfall rates, size storm drainage systems for roofs and parking lots, and identify various storm water drain types. The module also explains why modern code mandates the separation of sanitary and storm piping, alongside environmental standards for discharging wastewater from plumbing systems.

Natural Gas & Propane Systems

Gas plumbing requires high-level precision. This module teaches the threading and installation of black iron pipe for Natural Gas (NG) and Propane (LPG). Students learn to size fuel gas piping using both BTU and MBH load charts, applying proper sealants to ensure leak-free, code-compliant gas delivery.

Controls, Relays & Pump Systems

Modern plumbing requires electrical knowledge. This unit covers low-voltage controls, float switches, and alarm wiring for sump pumps, sewage ejectors, and lift stations. You will learn basic circuit safety and troubleshooting for staged plumbing equipment.

Hydronic Heating & Boilers

An introduction to heating systems. Students examine how boilers generate heat (via steam or hot water) and distribute it through residential heating piping networks. You will learn the applications for radiators, baseboards, and radiant floor heating systems.

Hangers, Supports, Pipe Insulation & Firestopping

This module covers the proper spacing and installation of hangers to secure plumbing pipes, as well as insulation techniques for thermal efficiency. Students will learn to identify suspect materials, including asbestos, and follow the mandatory safety protocols for reporting and isolating hazards to ensure job site safety.. We also cover Firestopping, the code requirement for sealing penetrations in fire-rated walls to prevent the spread of smoke and flame.

Specialty Piping, Indirect Waste & System Testing

Develop advanced skills for the critical systems found in commercial, industrial, and healthcare settings. This module covers “Indirect Waste” piping protocols required for food handling and sterile environments to prevent cross-contamination. You will learn the life-safety installation standards for Emergency Eyewash and Shower Stations (ANSI/ISEA Z358.1) mandated by OSHA. Finally, we cover the rigorous NSPC requirements for testing new installations, teaching you how to perform hydrostatic, air pressure, and smoke tests to ensure every system is leak-free and inspection-ready.

Blueprint Reading, Drafting & Fixture Installation

From rough-in to finish. Students learn to interpret plumbing blueprints, draft isometric sketches, and use symbols to plan a job effectively. The module transitions to “trim work,” teaching the proper installation of toilets, sinks, faucets, and shower valves to complete a plumbing installation.

Plumbing Codes & Regulations

Compliance is the backbone of the trade. This comprehensive module anchors your training in the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and 2024 National Standard Plumbing Code (NSPC), while reviewing the International Plumbing Code (IPC) for neighboring NY and PA markets. You will navigate critical regulatory frameworks including ADA accessibility, NJDEP environmental standards, and ASHRAE 188 for Legionella control. We also drill down into OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction) safety standards and the recent 2024–2026 code updates, covering new mandates for tracer wire, vacuum testing, chemical waste piping, and protection from expansive soils.

Apprenticeships, Career Pathways & NJ Licensing

We cover the roadmap to state licensure, preparing you to enter the workforce with a clear plan for long-term success. How do I become a licensed plumber in NJ?

To become a licensed plumber in New Jersey, you must combine approved education with field experience. The state requires you to complete 576 hours of Related Technical Instruction (RTI), while simultaneously accruing 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a sponsoring Master Plumber. Our program fully satisfies the entire 576-hour RTI classroom requirement in a single 11-month program, allowing you to complete your entire classroom education upfront. After fulfilling both the education and field requirements and working an additional year as a Journeyman, you qualify to take the Master Plumber license exam.

Are the training hours approved by the State of New Jersey?
