NJ Refrigeration License Requirements
Blue Seal 2-C Refrigeration License
To qualify for a NJ Blue Seal Refrigeration 2-C License, the rules depend on whether you work with toxic or non-toxic refrigerants.. A 2-C toxic license is required for systems using flammable or toxic refrigerants (such as R-123 or R-717) with a plant capacity of 24 to 65 tons. A 2-C non-toxic license is not required, but may be obtained with six months of experience in a plant of at least 250 tons capacity using refrigerants like R-11, R-12, R-22, or R-134A. Red Seal Refrigeration License
The NJ Red Seal 2-C Refrigeration License is required for plants using toxic refrigerants, such as R-123 or R-717, with a capacity of more than 65 tons and up to 300 tons. To qualify, applicants must have at least one year of experience holding a valid Blue Seal 2-C License and must submit one management endorsement along with two engineer endorsements from licensed Blue, Red, or Gold Seal engineers. Gold Seal Refrigeration License
Earning a NJ Gold Seal 2-A Refrigeration License requires at least one year of Red Seal experience and applies to plants with toxic refrigerants over 300 tons in capacity. Applicants must have at least one year of experience holding a valid Red Seal 2-C License and are required to submit one management endorsement along with two engineer endorsements from licensed Blue, Red, or Gold Seal engineers. NJ State Exams
Although our refrigeration license programs are fully online, the State of New Jersey requires all licensing exams be completed in person at a state-approved testing site.
