High Pressure Black Seal License Overview
The New Jersey Black Seal High Pressure license is required for boilers over 100 horsepower and more than 15 pounds pressure steam. If it’s a hot water heating system the boilers must be over 160 psi with a water temperature over 250° Fahrenheit. This classification of boiler operator’s license is a prerequisite for the NJ Blue Seal license eligibility.
| License Name | License Type | Minimum Horsepower | Maximum Horsepower |
|---|---|---|---|
| Black Seal | High Pressure | 100+ | 500 |
Requirements for High Pressure Black Seal License
The State of New Jersey mandates strict requirements for obtaining a Black Seal High Pressure Boiler License. Below outlines specific qualifications needed.
Experience Needed
This is in accordance with New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C.) 12:90-8.6, which sets forth the eligibility requirements for obtaining a Black Seal High Pressure Boiler Operator’s License.
Want a NJ Black Seal License But Don’t Have Experience? We offer a Boiler Operator Training Program that provides you all the hands-on experience required by the State of New Jersey, giving you everything you need to get a NJ Black Seal License. Learn more about our Boiler Operator Training Program.
Endorsements Needed
The Black Seal High Pressure License requires you to provide an endorsement from a manager from your place of employment for your application. If your boilers are over 500 horsepower, you also need two licensed engineers’ signatures to endorse your application (personnel with a blue, red, or gold seal license). Provide our school with NJ state inspection certificates. These certificates can be found hanging in your boiler room framed behind glass. They contain all the information that we need to fill out your application properly. Navy personnel can provide us with your DD 214 and the experience of equipment found on ships that you served on. Our school can go forward and get you a license based on that experience.
NJ License Exam
Although our boiler license courses are fully online, the State of New Jersey requires all license tests be completed in person at a state-approved testing site.
